St. Paul Music Ministry - Facilities and Instruments

Rehearsal Rooms

St. Paul has three well-equipped rehearsal rooms that are used by the church musical ensembles. A large choral room with an adjoining robing area is located on the first floor of the Administration/Education building across from the Church Office.

A large Children's choir room is located on the second floor of the Administration/Education building. This room also includes the children's handbell rehearsal area.

The Dixie M. Overman Handbell Room is located on the second floor of the Administration/Education building directly across from the Children's Choir Room.

Orff and other Percussion Instruments

St. Paul is fortunate to have a complete instrumentarium of Sonor® Orff Instruments including Soprano & Alto Glockenspiels, Soprano, Alto-Tenor & Bass Metallophones, Soprano, Alto-Tenor & Bass Xylophones and Bass & Contra Bass Bars. A number of unpitched instruments complete the collection. St Paul has a wonderful collection of African drums. Children' Choirs are exposed to a number of multi-cultural musical experiences using these instruments.

Harpsichord

The church harpsichord was built by Zuckermann in the early 1980s. It is a single-manual, Flemish with three choirs ~ 2 at 8-foot pitch, 4-foot pitch as well as a buff stop. It was given in memory of Georgia Lee Bynum, a long-time church organist of St. Paul and her daughter, Annie Lee Bynum Rand.

Sanctuary Organ

The organ is a custom Allen Digital Computer® installed during the 1982 renovation. The organ is a 3-manual instrument with Antiphonal speakers located in the balcony. A Cymbelstern was added to the organ through a gift in memory of Ed Smith, a long-time choir member by his wife Becky.

Handbells

A Five-octave set of Malmark Handbells, an Aluminum C2 Handbell and a Three-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells are used by the Handbell Choirs. The church also owns a Four-octave set of Malmark ChoirChimes®.

Pianos
A Mason & Hamlin Grand is used in the Fellowship Hall. A Kawaii Studio piano was given for the Sanctuary Choir Loft in loving memory of Georgia Kinsey.  For the Adult Choir Room, a Yamaha C3 piano was given in 1997 by friends and family in loving memory of Linda Joyce Paschal. Linda was a choir member and wife of former Pastor, The Rev. John Paschal.  A Yamaha Studio piano is used in the Chapel and Sanctuary.

Orchestra Chimes

The Musser Orchestra Chimes were given in memory of James Wharton by his wife, Vivian and daughter, Betsy. They are used each Sunday for Chiming of the Hour and in conjunction with other instruments.

Timpani

The Ludwig-Musser Timpani were used the first time on Easter Day, 2006.  They were made possible by a generous bequest to the Music Fund from the estate of Miss Viola Titus.
