Columbarium

The Purpose Of The Columbarium
The Columbarium becomes a contemporary setting for the old-time church cemetery. It better allows for maintenance and for ease of visitation. It also can be a serene spot for meditation and prayer.

We believe that inurnment on church grounds is a statement of our faith in the resurrection, the life everlasting and the church triumphant. We believe that the inurnment within the church ground is an appropriate last resting-place for the earthly remains of those who in life loved the church.

Urns containing the cremated ashes of loved ones are placed in a wall of niches to create a Columbarium. The purchase of niches, like the purchase of cemetery plots, makes the Columbarium self-perpetuating and permanently maintained.

The Memorial Walkway

Plaques in memory of loved ones buried elsewhere are placed along the brick walkway within the Columbarium.

Purchasing A Niche
Niches in the Columbarium walls are purchased by members of the church in the same way that cemetery plots are purchased. With the purchase of a niche, the members receive a folder containing the following:

  • Contract for Purchase and Perpetual Care,
  • Policy and Operating Rules,
  • Certificate acknowledging the right of use indicating the specific niche and its location,
  • Receipt for purchase.

Plaques in the Memorial Walkway are placed with donations to the Columbarium Fund in memory of a loved one.

The church is responsible for the permanent maintenance of the Columbarium and its Memorial Walkway.

Cost
There are 100 Columbarium niches. Each niche holds one or two cremation urns. As an initial offering, the price of each niche is $1,200.00. The price includes the engraving of names and dates of birth and death for each inurned person. There is no additional charge for opening and closing niches.

For those who do not wish to make a full lump-sum payment upon purchase of a niche, there is an installment plan whereby a niche may be purchased by an initial payment of $450.00 with the remainder to be paid in three increments of $300.00 over a period of three years, totaling $1,350.00. Plaques in the Memorial Walkway for persons interred elsewhere may be obtained upon donation to the Columbarium Fund of $500.00 or more.

Purchase of Columbarium niches and arrangement for plaques may be made by application to the church office. With initial payment, the purchaser may select the desired niche location. Placement of the Memorial Walkway plaques will be made by the Columbarium committee. Any further information you may need may also be obtained from the church office.

History
The Columbarium is on the east side of the education building. Phase I, which is completed, has 100 niches. Phase II will be built as needed with a proposed 148 niches. The Columbarium is enclosed by a low brick wall for privacy, but without a "closed-in" feeling. Each section is accessed by an attractive iron-gate. Each internment niche is covered by a beautiful granite faceplate on which the names and dates of birth and death of the deceased are to be engraved.

The Memorial Walkway is made of matching brick with 8" by 16" granite plaques inserted bearing the names of those memorialized. In the center of the Columbarium area is a fountain and benches for quiet prayer and reflection.

At all times the Columbarium will be a dignified place of peace and beauty, an asset to our church and a fitting memorial to our departed loved ones.

For several years, members of our church have envisioned building a Columbarium on our church grounds. Because the concept is new to many of our members, we are publishing this information to familiarize, to answer questions and to announce the availability of Columbarium spaces. Initially, a Columbarium Committee was appointed to study options and to make recommendations. The committee selected Columbarium Planners, Inc. of Pinehurst, NC to construct the facility. The Board of Trustees has approved the concept.

The Administrative Board has approved the overall detailed plan and authorized the construction. The inurnment niches and memorial plaques are available to our members and their families. The Columbarium was consecrated on April 21 as part of the 10:55 Worship Service.
